When the world turned upside down, opportunity rose to the top, especially for the Body of Christ. Needs have surfaced in 185 countries like never before. Millions of people are sick, and many of them are dying. Some are lonely and depressed, void of the life-giving social connections on which they thrive.  Communities are living in fear and anxiety. Jobs have been lost and, with them, hope as well. That’s a tiny part of the crisis side of the story.

On the flip side is the opportunity side of the story. The Church is rising to fulfill the needs. Christians are ministering to the critically ill and their families and comforting those who have lost family members and friends. Brothers and sisters in Christ are opening their lake home, beach homes, basements, and garage apartments to missionary families who have evacuated their fields of service and are serving the required two-weeks of quarantine required when they return to their homelands. Online church services are drawing in thousands who never walk through the physical church building doors. In many instances, giving is up because churches and organizations are feeding the hungry, the jobless, the ill, as well as the doctors, nurses, and first responders who are caring for them. Virtual prayer events are flourishing. Hearts are opening to the Gospel, and online trained workers are making disciples. The Church is using the lemons to make lemonade. Opportunity abounds. It’s a “just-add-water” time in history.

What’s your part in the mix? God has a role for you. He planned for it even before there was a virus.

What is the opportunity He wants you to meet in the face of this crisis? Ask God to lead you to take hold of it as you redeem this opportunity which may never be yours again.

Father, these are unusual days in which we are living. So much seems bad; so much seems wrong. But You are the One Who is famous for taking the bad and turning it into good, for redeeming evil for eternity. I am Your instrument to use as You wish. Help me to make the most of every opportunity. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
