By Dionna Linn, Serving through Quest in Spain

“Marlene has been seeking God for some time, but has been hesitant to go to church, in fact, she has done most of her seeking online… which is how she found us.”

I am sure you want to hear more about Marlene, but first, let’s take a quick journey together.

Imagine printing an article for people to read, including in it an invitation to search for spiritual truth, and then sharing this with as many people as possible out on the street. You can imagine the results: a decent number of people would ignore you, the vast majority would take the article and toss it in the nearest trash can, a handful might stop and read it out of respect, a few might read the article and engage in conversation, and an even smaller percentage would specifically want to know more about spiritual truth.

Now, let’s say the goal was to put this article in the hands of 17,000 people… If you spent 5 minutes with each person, working 8 hours each day, it would take 177 days to reach the goal. Say you took a few teammates along with you; even so, it would still take nearly a month to put this article before 17,000 people.

I mention all of this because this is precisely what our team did this month… except we didn’t exactly hand out the article on the streets, nor did we spend the whole month working on it; actually, in just 3 days, we placed an article in the hands of 17,000 people in Granada through our media ministry. Through this article, we invited 17,000 people to consider seeking spiritual truths.

The Power of Media

Now, stay with me here, because this is just the beginning (and we haven’t talked about Marlene yet). This article was our “test” article, to get familiarized with the ins and outs of using media to share something at such a large scale.

Following our test article, we began a two-week period of promoting ourselves online in the Granada area, just like any business would prior to its opening day. Throughout the past week, another 15,000 people have seen our information through our marketing efforts and we have received positive feedback from nearly 400 of those people, whether they have liked, commented, or shared our page with others.

Our goal is to sift through the masses and find the few who truly are ready to learn more. And here’s the cool part, we are already coming in to contact with people who want to know more about God, like Marlene, for example.

Our First Contact

Marlene was the first person to contact us directly and ask for more information. When someone asks us this, we typically respond by saying that we are a group of people who desire to discover who God is through His word, who seek to obey the things He asks of us, and to share these truths with others. Marlene agreed to meet with two of my teammates, who were able to learn more about her story.

Marlene has been seeking God for some time, but has been hesitant to go to church, in fact, she has done most of her seeking online, which is how she found us. Following that conversation, Marlene agreed to meet regularly to study the Bible! Praise the Lord!

This is just the beginning of our media ministry and we are already seeing the Lord’s hand at work. We praise Him for that. In the same way, it has been evident that the enemy does not want to lose ground.

I believe there are specific ways that you can pray for this media ministry

  • Pray for unity. Without a doubt, this media ministry will require a team effort. Scripture alludes to teamwork just as a human body, one in which many different functions must be completed in order for the body to be healthy. I covet your prayers for our team – that we might be able to communicate healthily, fulfill our roles humbly and passionately, and seek to overcome the disunity Satan so desperately wants on our team.
  • Pray for resilience. It would not be fair to only share the story of Marlene, making it look as though the only comments we receive are positive. In fact, the majority are negative. People have questioned our work, called us a cult, proclaimed that God does not exist and argued that truth cannot be found. These comments are difficult to not take personally or allow them to weigh us down.
  • Pray for the harvest. We know there are people out there like Marlene, who desire to know the truth about God and just need direction. Pray that God would use this ministry tool to touch the lives of many Spaniards and bring them to a full understanding of who God is.

A Note From the Editor

Whether you call it Media Ministry, Media2Movement, M2M, or M2DMM (there’s probably other names too) — the process of using today’s technology to reach those seeking the Truth is growing. Fields around the world are testing this approach and most of them are seeing some amazing fruit. As Dionna mentioned, it’s not without its challenges. Please pray. Pray for our teams in Spain, Taiwan, and several of our more sensitive locations that are using this approach.

Do you want to join the work? All of these fields are looking for teammates to join in the work of multiplying disciples. If you’d like to learn more about how you can join in, fill out a profile to start a conversation.
